If you searched "what is DePix", you probably saw it's a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Brazilian Real — but the practical part was missing: who issues it, how the backing works, how to get it, where to store it, how to swap it and what the risks are. This guide puts it all together, from scratch, and shows where PixGo fits in each step.

In short
  • DePix (DEPIX) = a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Real, issued by Eulen and recorded on the Liquid Network (a Bitcoin sidechain)
  • Buy with PIX: on PixGo Wallet, from R$ 15 per purchase up to R$ 500 per day, with fees on screen before you confirm
  • Receive sales as DePix: the customer pays a regular PIX and the amount reaches your wallet as DEPIX by the end of the next day (D+1)
  • Self-custody: the seed is yours — whatever reaches your wallet stays under your control
  • You can swap for USDT inside the Wallet or go back to Real via the PIX Button or CryPix
  • Real risks: DePix depends on its issuer, and losing the seed means losing access to the balance

DePix in one sentence

1 DePix = R$ 1. DePix is a digital token that tracks the value of the Real and moves on the Liquid Network. You can hold it, send it to another wallet, swap it for other Liquid assets or convert it back to Real.

In practice, it combines the stability of the Real with what's useful about crypto: self-custody, sending at any time (weekends included) and portability between wallets. It's not a speculative investment and it pays no yield: it's stable digital money that you control.

Want DePix in your wallet? You can buy it with PIX in PixGo Wallet.

Who issues DePix and how the backing works

DePix is issued by Eulen (Eulen.app LLC). Eulen issues, redeems and controls the number of tokens in circulation. PixGo is not the issuer: it's a platform that uses DePix to deliver your sales and that sells DePix on PixGo Wallet.

According to the official DePix site (depix.info), each DePix is backed 1:1 by liquid assets held in the financial system, and the BRL reserves are handled by authorized financial intermediaries. The same site states that DePix is not legal tender and is not guaranteed by any government or central bank. Details about reserves and checks should be verified directly with the issuer.

Why DePix runs on the Liquid Network

The Liquid Network is a Bitcoin sidechain created by Blockstream. For DePix users, that brings three practical things:

  • Fast transfers between wallets: a new block comes roughly every minute, so a transfer confirms within a few minutes
  • Low network fee: paid in L-BTC, usually fractions of a cent
  • Confidential Transactions: transaction amounts are hidden on the public blockchain (addresses remain visible)

To understand the network from scratch — L-BTC, the federation, peg-in and peg-out — read Liquid Network for beginners.

How to get DePix

On PixGo there are two paths: buy with PIX on PixGo Wallet or receive your sales as DePix.

Buy DePix with PIX on PixGo Wallet

On PixGo Wallet, tap Comprar (Buy) on the My Wallet screen, choose DePix, enter the amount and the CPF or CNPJ of who will pay, and check the purchase summary. You pay the PIX from the account of that same document and the DEPIX reaches your wallet's Liquid address.

Item How it works
AmountFrom R$ 15 per purchase, up to R$ 500 per day across all of the day's purchases
Limit resetMidnight, Brasília time
FeesPixGo fee, bank fee and network fee, added up as total fees before you confirm
PaymentPIX only, from the account of the document you entered
TimingShortly after the PIX is confirmed (purchases don't follow the sales D+1)

Step by step with the screen names on Comprar DePix com Pix (in Portuguese) and in the guide Buy Crypto on PixGo Wallet.

Receive sales as DePix

If you sell products or services, PixGo creates the charge and your customer pays a regular PIX from their bank. The paid amount reaches your wallet as DEPIX by the end of the next day (D+1), every day. To start: sign up with email and password and save and validate your wallet in My Profile; after sign-up, PixGo validates your account. See the PixGo PIX gateway (in Portuguese).

Amount Fee
R$ 50 or more2% of the amount
From R$ 10 to R$ 49.992% + R$ 1.00 flat
Transfer (D+1) to your walletR$ 0.50 per transfer (PixGo's fee, not a Liquid network fee)

Each charge goes up to your level's cap (from R$ 300 at Beginner to R$ 6,000 at Elite), and your level rises on its own with the total received. The payer's bank may apply its own limits. Details in PixGo Fees and PixGo Limits.

Where to store it: a self-custody wallet

DePix lives in a Liquid wallet. PixGo Wallet is non-custodial: the 12-word seed is generated and stays in your browser (protected with Argon2id), with optional biometrics and an Android app. PixGo doesn't hold your funds or your keys.

  • The seed is the wallet: whoever has the 12 words controls the balance. Write it on paper, keep it somewhere safe and never send a photo or screenshot.
  • Forgot your password? With the seed, you import the wallet again and set a new password. Without the seed and the password, nobody can recover it.
  • Portability: the same seed can be imported into another compatible Liquid wallet. You can also hold DePix in other Liquid wallets, such as SideSwap or Aqua.
  • Receiving needs no L-BTC: to send or swap later you need a little L-BTC for the network fee, and the Liquid network screen has the Buy Gas button (see Liquid Gas Station).

How to swap or cash out

  • Swap for USDT (digital dollar): the PixGo Wallet Swap trades DEPIX for USDt on Liquid itself, with the quote on screen before you confirm. Many people use it to keep part of what they receive in dollars — see Receive PIX and hold it in dollars.
  • Back to Real: the Wallet's PIX Button sends a PIX to any key using your DePix, through the integrated CryPix (minimum R$ 100 per transfer).
  • Pay PIX or bills: CryPix uses your DePix to pay PIX, boleto or top-ups.
  • Send to another Liquid wallet: in Send, choose DEPIX, paste the recipient's lq1q address and confirm.

The cash-out paths, with fees and timing, are in How to cash out DEPIX.

Risks and precautions

  • DePix depends on its issuer: parity with the Real depends on Eulen maintaining the backing and redemption. It is not guaranteed by any government or central bank.
  • Losing the seed: without the seed (and the password), the balance is inaccessible. Nobody, PixGo included, can recover it.
  • Crypto transactions are final: a transfer to the wrong address doesn't come back. For a new address, send a small amount first.
  • Scams: "half-price DePix", "support" asking for your seed and cloned sites are scams. PixGo never asks for your seed. See how not to fall for scams.
  • Disputed sales: for sellers, the DePix that already arrived stays in your wallet, but a PIX dispute (MED) is still possible. If the payer opens a MED and the amount is returned to them, it may be deducted from your next payouts. See MED: how to defend yourself.
  • No yield: DePix tracks the Real; it's not an investment and promises no gains.

DePix on Brazilian income tax

DePix is a digital asset and goes on your tax return. Reporting rules, exemptions and deadlines are in the guide How to report DEPIX on income tax. When in doubt, ask an accountant.

Frequently asked questions

Is DePix the same as PIX?

No. PIX is the Central Bank's instant payment system. DePix is a token pegged to the Real that moves on the Liquid Network. On PixGo, a payment made via PIX can become DePix in your wallet.

Who issues DePix?

Eulen (Eulen.app LLC), which issues and redeems the tokens. PixGo is not the issuer.

Is DePix safe?

The token runs on the Liquid Network and, on PixGo Wallet, sits in a self-custody wallet where only you have the seed. The main risks are dependence on the issuer, losing the seed and scams. Read the risks section above before holding large amounts.

Is DePix guaranteed by the government or the Central Bank?

No. According to the official DePix site, it is not legal tender and is not guaranteed by any government or central bank. The backing is the issuer's responsibility.

How much does it cost to buy DePix?

On PixGo Wallet, the fees (PixGo fee, bank fee and network fee) appear in the purchase summary before you generate the QR Code. For sellers, the fee is 2% (2% + R$ 1 on sales from R$ 10 to R$ 49.99) plus R$ 0.50 per transfer to your wallet.

What are the minimum and maximum to buy DePix?

The minimum is R$ 15 per purchase, and the limit is R$ 500 per day across all of the day's purchases.

Do I need a bank account to hold DePix?

To hold it, no: DePix sits in your wallet, and your sales go straight to it without passing through a bank account. But purchases on PixGo Wallet are paid via PIX, so you use an account (bank or digital account) under your document to pay.

How long does DePix take to reach my wallet?

For purchases in the Wallet, shortly after the PIX is confirmed. For sales received through PixGo, by the end of the next day (D+1).

Can I swap DePix for dollars?

Yes. The PixGo Wallet Swap trades DEPIX for USDt on the Liquid Network, and you can go back to DEPIX whenever you want.

After DePix arrives, can the sale still be disputed?

Yes. The DePix in your wallet is yours, but the payer can still open a MED with their bank. If the amount is returned to the payer, it may be deducted from your next payouts.
